Description

We will accompany you through various tastes of Trieste. Starting with a short briefing on Piazza Unità on the 50 ways to order your coffee.

We then visit one coffee roaster company where you will deepen your insight in coffee and its importance in Trieste. There are 22 coffee maker companies in Trieste. Trieste is home to the famous Illy Coffee, has a Coffee University, a coffee research laboratory and is the biggest coffee importation harbour in the Mediterranean. Every second year is organized a global espresso fair.

The covered market of Trieste that opened in 1936, is an inspiring food place. It was a gift from Sara Davis who felt pity for the sellers having to stay outdoors on the market place, exposed to rain, cold and strong wind in the winter, heat in the summer.

The historic cafés of Trieste are still filling an important part of folks daily life, as a place to meet, to read, to study, to listen to presentations, and to have coffee or tea and something to eat. Lunch will be in one of them.  However without dessert!

There is a strong tradition of Mittel-European cakes in Trieste, coming from the many well-renomated pastry shops. We offer you a tasting, as the dessert, some of the classic types.

Friuli - Venezia Giulia has some of Italy’s very best white wine makers. Some of these excellent producers are in a small village on the hills above the city, overlooking the gulf. You will hear about a special local vine that holds extra on to the grapes so they don’t fall down under the from time to time strong Bora wind. The cantines, dug out from the Carsic stone, are impressive.

The Carso plateau offer very good cheeses, from the milk of cows as well as goats. So far we are aware of seven excellent producers. One is even offering people to adopt his goats, for a year at the time, although it may not be him we take you to the day of your tour.

Trieste is famous for it’s boiled pork meat, and the buffets where you can taste it. Some years ago, the New York Times, even wrote a page on one of them. On the last stop of the tour, you will taste a mix of the boiled meat specialities. Don’t plan for a big dinner afterwards!
